Headed Home...

Saori Residency - Day 8

One last adventure in Victoria before heading home…

This morning we caught the ferry and headed back into Victoria. We have fit some much into one week that it is hard to believe that it was just a week ago when we first met!

The view from the ferry between Salt Spring to Victoria.
Once in Victoria, we had a chance to visit Lynn and her weaving studio. She shared many of her woven pieces with us and I got a chance to try some of them on.

I have been inspired to try some other clothing patterns once I get home and I think my squid will get some t-shirt ties like Lynn had put onto one of her squids. Thank you for the inspiration!

Todays's quote of the day, "Abruptly, sophisticatedly, colorfully, and conspicuously there are some people who handle it effortlessly." -Misao Jo

As a gift, I brought Lynn a little painting that I did  inspired by her weaving last Sunday.

Lynn was a great tour guide today. We went to a couple small shops that sold artwork made by local artists, Picot and Forge. At Picot, Britt had her Saori loom out in the shop and and some of her woven pieces for sale.

We had lunch at a restaurant called Nourish which had fresh, gluten free foods. It was in a renovated old house with high ceilings, but it was the sticks covered with moss on the window sill that caught our attention…

Our woven clothing caught the attention of our waitress. Hopefully she will be a new Saori weaver at some point soon...

Then we headed to the water. As Jacqui Bonwell had said at the Chakra Cleanse I attended back in the fall, "In times of transformation, go and sit by the water." It has been nice to visit the water in one way or another almost every day while here. Today we walked the Breakwater at Ogden Point. The view was beautiful.

What a great way to end a fantastic week full of creativity and adventure!

Feeling free, now I am headed home. Thank you for an amazing week.

  1. Smooth and happy travels back home Stacey!

Thank you for coming and sharing your work and your enthusiasm with me and with all the weavers that you encountered - at my studio, at Pacifica Paddle and even at Picot today.

Lynn asked "What was your favourite part" - turning your question back to both of us. I think my favourite part was seeing and experiencing your process of creating your work. It was so interactive and influenced by our daily experiences. Very inspiring.

What a full and joyful week! So glad to meet you, get to know you and share the studio with you. I'm sure we'll meet again - I sure hope so anyway!

    Happy Weaving,
    Terri

    1. Thanks so much Terri. Thank you for everything! This residency was all that I hoped it would be and more. I am equally inspired by you and all the creative people I met this week while visiting. Doing this is certainly where I belong...

My favorite part of the week, besides the starfish and adorable baby lambs…. was certainly taking time to weave with you, learning from you, and working on a woven portrait that depicts you. Thank you for sharing your stories, your island, and the tricks of the trade with me. All of these things will be finding there way into the work little by little and at their own pace for quite some time.

I am sure that we will meet again, here, there or maybe even somewhere else… All the best to you and your new beginnings.

      Love,
      Stacey

  2. Terri-

Also, you will be interested to know that the women I was sitting near on the flight to Edmonton, Christine and Florence, both commented on the west cast dream squid and I told them all about you and that they need to come weave in the magical woods of Salt Spring Island as well. You never know, maybe they will….

  3. What a great week! I have so many ideas roaming around in my head.....I already have 2 weaving projects on the go! If only I had another loom.... A great day in Victoria too. I love showing people around, seeing some of the beauty in this city. I know we'll meet again too, maybe on a trip back east, then you can show me around Boston and N.Y.! I can't wait to see what shows up on your loom in the next months, ideas hatched here during your visit. Hugs, Lynn
